Crossroads. A land of possibilities, set on an island in the middle of a ring of islands, each separated by magic from the other, with Crossroads the port in between. Legend tells of a time before Crossroads existed, when the Lord of the Abyss ruled the earth and the people were naught but slaves to its will. Demons too dark to imagine feasted on men, fouling the very land on which they stood and enslaving all life. It was a time of torment, a darkness from which rose a Champion, blessed by Providence to defeat the evil that ravaged the lands. Now, we live five centuries after that overthrow, but still in the subtle shadow of darkness and intrigues wrought in ages past and present.

There are many different types of characters on Crossroads. Citizens, nobles, merchants, mages, scientists, courtiers... most come from within Gateway empire, but some could have ventured here from beyond the barrier.

Characters interact in a world shaped by Ancient History as well as more recent events. In sum, Gateway is the center of five isles which each tend to have specialties: warriors from one, farmers from another, drugs and herbs from a third, and magic from a fourth. The nature of each isle`s specialties requires cooperation to maintain the safe continuation of the Empire, and protection from demons which threaten to enslave humanity.
